New Baby Mini Albums

It's been a long long while since my last post, due to the crazy things going on that we are all very aware of - but that doesn't mean I haven't been crafting! If anything, I've been crafting more than ever, having had some additional free time being on part-time furlough, and due to the comfort and relaxation it has brought me over the past few months.

I wanted to share something I've been making through lockdown and beyond - new baby mini albums. I absolutely adore baby-themed crafts, there are such adorable collections available - but not having any little ones myself (or any in my close family) I don't usually get to use them. However, with a couple of close friends having babies in the past few months, I figured what better gift than homemade albums they can use to document their bundle of joy's first year. And once I made a couple I couldn't stop - just waiting for more people to gift them to now!

Here are the first two I made, a baby boy album using Echo Park 'Hello Baby Boy', and a baby girl album using Pebbles 'Peek-a-Boo You: Baby Girl'.

To create the albums, I cut several pieces of patterned paper to 5 inch by 10 inch, which were then folded in half. The pages that will be closer to the centre will need a couple of millimetres trimming off the vertical sides, or they will stick out once the book is folded. Once I had my pages in the desired order, I bound them together using the Paige Evans & We R Memory Keepers book binding tool and a simple saddle stitch.

The tool is SO easy to use (Paige has a great video on her Youtube channel showing the process if you're unsure). You can clip your paper in place after arranging the pages, then following the guide, pierce the paper through the marked holes down the centre fold. Using the wax thread and needle, you can then sew the thread through the holes and pull taut before securing tightly to hold the pages together. With the baby girl book, I also threaded a tassel charm into the binding which adds some cute additional detail. I love this tool and I think I may end up a bit addicted to making mini albums!

To decorate each album, I included pages for the monthly milestones, where photos can be stuck to document the little one growing older - this was super easy as both collections included handy number stickers.

I added lots of different textures to decorate the pages, including twine, stitching, nuvo drops and sequins. Some pages also included fun interactive elements, such as pockets with pull out tags or flippable elements with space for smaller photos or journaling.

I think they turned out super cute and they were so fun to make; I'm even more excited to see how they look when full of adorable photos.
